Training of Village Malaria Workers (VMWs) in Information Education Communication (IEC) and Behavior Change Communication (BCC)
In the month of November 2017 – a Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop was conducted by experts from ICMR NIRTH: Dr. Kalyan B. Saha – Scientist E, Dr. Ravendra Sharma – Scientist D, Dr. A Verma – STO and Mrs. Sulochana Rajak – Deputy Media Incharge from the office of CMHO, Government of MP and MEDP Staff.
In this training, Capacity Building Officer (CBO) of MEDP was trained as a Master Trainer and all 25 Malaria Field Coordinators (MFCs) were trained as Trainers for the Village Malaria Workers (VMWs). During this month, training sessions were conducted for all the VMWs by the MFCs under direct supervision of the CBO . Few sessions were also monitored by the Program Officer and District Officer (MEDP) and attended by the District Malaria Officer, Consultant Entomology (RHOFW) and Consultant VBD from GoMP .
Total 205 VMWs from 8 blocks have been trained, only one block (Ghughari) is remaining with its 23 VMWs and is scheduled for this month. Alongside, material is under development and field deployment of IEC-BCC activities will begin soon.

Training of newly recruited Village Malaria Workers (VMWs) and Malaria Field Coordinator (MFC)
Training session for newly recruited 23 Village Malaria Workers (VMWs) and one Malaria Field Coordinator (MFC) (23+1) was conducted from 12th to 14th December, 2017.
The session was tutored by the Representative from the District Malaria Office – GoMP, District Officer – MEDP Mandla and Capacity Building Officer – MEDP Mandla. Pre and post training tests were administered, a total of 19+1 trainees cleared the post-training test with 70% passing threshold. A re-training was conducted for the remaining 4 trainees, out of which, one candidate quit the training mid-way and one was let go due to poor performance in the post-test even after re-training. A total of 21+1 candidates were cleared for active duty. These new recruits were certified to Track, Test and Treat (T3) Malaria in Mandla by the Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO), Mandla – GoMP as well.

ASHA needs assessment
As part of our commitment to the Government of Madhya Pradesh, a needs assessment for Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) was carried out with the help of ICMR-NIRTH, Jabalpur. Officials from NIRTH included Dr. M M Shukla – Scientist F, Dr. Nishant Saxena – Scientist B and Dr. A Verma – STO. The objective was to assess the knowledge, practices, and attitude of Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) related to malaria. Out of total 1300 ASHAs of Mandla district, 220 were selected randomly for interviews by NIRTH and MEDP Staff in the months of June and July 2017. The analysis for the same was completed in December 2017. A formal report to communicate the detailed findings to the Government of Madhya Pradesh is in-process. 62% ASHAs provide no/inadequate Primaquine in cases of Pv
