District administration designated Essential Services status to MEDP for supporting Government of Madhya Pradesh during COVID-19 pandemic
As the global community struggles with the COVID-19 pandemic, India is working to tackle the disease with prompt and effective public health strategies. MEDP has been granted permissions to work under ‘essential services’ during the lockdown. We have pledged our support to the Government of Madhya Pradesh and are helping the district administration of Mandla in tracking and isolation of suspected COVID-19 patients along with its malaria surveillance and case management activities in the district. The Advance Tour Plans (ATPs) of the field staff have been revised to suit the ongoing lockdown and all necessary infection control protocols are being practiced.

Fighting against COVID-19: Distribution of face masks, Check-post duties etc.
MEDP is committed in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic. We are helping the district administration of Mandla in tracking and isolation of suspected COVID-19 patients along with its malaria surveillance and case management activities in the district. Recently, we got facemasks hand-stitched by inmates of Mandla jail and distributed them to our entire staff of 270+ for personal protection. The field staff has been stationed to screen all in/out populations at district borders.

Tracking of migratory cases
From March 2 to 12 2020, more than 650 residents of Mandla district returned home from states of Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Jharkhand for the festival of Holi. Everyone was tracked using the active village-level migratory population list maintained by the Village Malaria Workers (VMWs). The population was intercepted at bus stops (Figure 1) and symptomatic patients were tested on-the-spot. Asymptomatic cases traveling from malaria-endemic areas were also tested. Surveillance deployed on Sundays and festival days also led to discovery of malaria infections in this population. A total of 21 malaria positive cases were diagnosed, all of whom were administered the treatment under direct observation.
