Tracking of migratory cases
From March 2 to 12 2020, more than 650 residents of Mandla district returned home from states of Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Jharkhand for the festival of Holi. Everyone was tracked using the active village-level migratory population list maintained by the Village Malaria Workers (VMWs). The population was intercepted at bus stops (Figure 1) and symptomatic patients were tested on-the-spot. Asymptomatic cases traveling from malaria-endemic areas were also tested. Surveillance deployed on Sundays and festival days also led to discovery of malaria infections in this population. A total of 21 malaria positive cases were diagnosed, all of whom were administered the treatment under direct observation.
