MEDP delivered a long talk at the Malaria in Melbourne conference 2019 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
On October 28, 2019, MEDP was invited for a long talk at the Malaria Elimination – Gains & Challenges session in the Melbourne conference 2019 at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute in Melbourne, Australia. Speakers from around the world shared their experiences, learnings and strategies for malaria elimination in various domains from molecular biology to field implementation to programmatic management. In addition to talk from MEDP on malaria elimination in Mandla, Dr Audrey Odom John from the Washington University School of Medicine spoke about the novel inexpensive and accurate malaria diagnosis tool using a breath-test being developed by their team, Dr Ngor Pengby from Cambodia showcased their plans for malaria elimination using a mobile application surveillance tool very similar to what MEDP Mandla has introduced in the district. The talk was well-received and the strategy of MEDP with special focus on operational excellence and accountability were lauded by the audience.

From October 23 to 25 2019, as per the operational plan, ICMR NIRTH completed its quarterly entomological investigation in Mandla district. The team headed by Dr. A K Mishra studied the quality of Indoor Residual Spray, performed night collections, resting mosquito collections, cone bioassays, insecticide susceptibility tests, etc. in the target villages.

Rotary’s Active Hands Are Touching (RAHAT) provide free medical examination, dental procedures, and surgeries to the areas with limited access to healthcare since 2010. Once again, this year 2019, the large-scale camp will be organized by RAHAT in Mandla district catering to a population of more than 12 lac people. MEDP Mandla is supporting RAHAT in its glorious initiative and is participating is patient screening for the upcoming camp all over the district.

Round 2 of Indoor Residual Spray was started on September 1, 2019, and was completed by October 15, 2019, in the district. As per the operational plan, MEDP Mandla provided supportive supervision to the spray teams along with the implementation of the monitoring tool for the IRS.
