Second Malaria Elimination Advisory Group (MEAG) meeting
A two-day meeting was held at the National Institute for Research in Tribal Health (NIRTH) to review the progress of the Malaria Elimination Demonstration Project (MEDP).
MEAG members, stakeholders and observers from all around the country were present for the meeting. Presentations by PATH, CHAI, Malaria No More, Tata Trust and Godrej in their respective work in malaria were made.
Day 1 included presentations on state of M-MEDP-MEDP structure, project timeline, staffing update, communication, collaborations, training and assessment of Field Workers, summary of first MEAG with follow up, demo and training of IEC/BCC, roll-out of Track, Test and Treat (T3), surveillance and case management, troubleshooting, inter-sectorial coordination, real-time reporting and data sharing along with a demo of the mobile application surveillance tool “SOCH”
Day 2 began with presentations on proposed research questions by scientists from ICMR NIRTH followed by ASHA needs assessment, LLIN monitoring and entomological studies done by the project. The meeting concluded with a discussion on solutions for observed challenges. A sub-committee was formed to address the issues and the report was submitted on the same day.

Project updates to high-level stakeholders
During our interactions at the second MEAG meeting, we realized that most high-level stakeholders do not have enough time to read the detailed reports generated by the project. We were also requested by the DM and CMHO to advise them on strategies to better prepare the district from Dengue and Diarrheal diseases in-advance this year.
To address this, a WhatsApp group was created which has stakeholders like Director NVBDCP, Director ICMR NIRTH, Board of FDEC India, Scientists of ICMR NIRTH, SPO DHS Bhopal, DM CMHO DMO Mandla etc. We post short updates in bullets with photographs in this group for quick review and reference

Participation of Pulse-Polio initiative of GoMP
On March 9, 2018 FDEC India was requested by the Government of Madhya Pradesh for support in a pulse-polio round in Mandla. FDEC India deployed its entire field staff of 260 individuals (235 VMWs and 25 MFCs) to aid the polio vaccination drive for the entire duration (March 11 to 13 2018)
The field staff received trainings from the respective Block medical officers of all the blocks on March 10 2018 as polio booth supervisors.

MEDP developed its own IEC/BCC material for use in the community outreach activities. These material have been developed based upon our regular feedback from the field – which included the field staff and the community of Mandla.
