A briefing about the upcoming LLIN distribution was held in the office of the District Magistrate of Mandla – Sh. Jagdish Chandra Jatiya. MEDP has offered full support in planning and IEC/BCC campaigns for the upcoming exercise. The distribution is expected to start from first week of February in all blocks of the district.

IEC/BCC KAP assessment of Mandla.
An IEC/BCC KAP assessment has been planned to assess the current status of knowledge, attitude and perceptions of the general population of Mandla about malaria and to review the project activities in the domain.
After exhaustive consultations with ICMR NIRTH, a comprehensive KAP assessment tool has been developed targeting the household members, middle school students and teachers of Mandla. Phase 1 of the activity (Households) started on January 24 and is expected to be completed by February 1 2019. Following this, phase 2 will consists of school students and teachers.
Findings from this KAP assessment will enable us to understand the knowledge gaps of the district and customize our interventions accordingly.

January 15-17, 2019 – In order to further strengthen the IEC/BCC practices by the project – experts from ICMR NIRTH conducted a re-orientation training for the entire staff of 235 Village Malaria Workers and 25 Malaria Field Coordinators.
Drs. Kalyan B. Saha – Scientist F and Arvind Verma – STO from ICMR NIRTH performed troubleshooting in IEC/BCC activities by personally interacting with the entire staff during block-level sessions in the district. Half-yearly reviews of IEC/BCC activities have been proposed by ICMR NIRTH and accepted by the project.

Meeting with the H’ble Chief Minister Sh. Kamal Nath and PS Health Dr Pallavi Govil.
January 17, 2019 – MEDP was called upon by the H’ble Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh – Sh. Kamal Nath followed by an in-depth review by PS Health – Dr. Pallavi Govil. The key highlights of the project with the reduction in malaria cases, capacity building, entomology, IEC/BCC findings etc. were noted.
Following this, MEDP has been asked to prepare and present a model for malaria elimination based upon the findings of the project. The same model will be used to replicate the project in other parts of Madhya Pradesh.
The project was represented by Dr. Azadar Khan, Senior Vice President - Sun Pharma and Board Member – FDEC India, Dr. Altaf Lal, Senior Advisor – Sun Pharma, Project Director – MEDP & Board Member – FDEC India.

As part of its IEC/BCC campaign, MEDP produces calendars with malaria awareness messages. These calendars ensure year-round compliance by the general population. This year, 2000 such calendars were produced and hung all over the district at schools, anganwadis, sub-centers etc.

The session was organized in the memory of Late Dr Neeru Singh – Past Director ICMR NIRTH to honor her exceptional contributions in the field of tribal health. MEDP was her brainchild and operational plan was developed with her guidance.
