Malaria Elimination Demonstration Project (MEDP)
Malaria Elimination Demonstration Project (MEDP) is a first-of-its-kind Public-Private-Partnership between the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Government of Madhya Pradesh (GoMP), and the Foundation for Disease Elimination and Control of India (FDEC-India), which is established by Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. as a not-for-profit entity. The unique feature is the focus on public-private partnership where all partners share resources and responsibilities that contribute towards the success of the project.
The support we receive from the National Vector Borne Disease Control Program (NVBDCP) and the inter-sectorial participation of local panchayats, civil society and other departments of the government contribute towards the accomplishment of goals of the project. The success of this program will encourage other private sector entities to engage in malaria elimination and similar public health programs directly at the field-level.
As we have described in the operational plan (Op plan link), Mandla was chosen because of the experience and knowledge of the National Institute for Research in Tribal Health (NIRTH) in parasitological, entomological, community-based field investigations, drug treatment, and malaria control and elimination and it presents us opportunities to learn lessons in epidemiologic, environmental, demographic, operational, management, and social sciences for state and national malaria elimination programs.Read More
